Date Line--August 31st, 2011 Minot, North Dakota
Over 200 LCMS members in Minot, North Dakota are homeless following the devastating floods of 2011. Dozens of LCMS members for each of the 3 congregations in Minot are among the victims of the tragic flooding that put more than 1/3 of the city under water. In many cases, the water the not recede for nearly a month. Mold has taken over what the floods didn't destroy. LCMS members are transitioning to FEMA trailers or staying with friends and relatives as the recovery continues.

This week LCMS assessment teams have been on the scene in Minot with local pastors and church members. Rev. Glenn F Merritt, director of disaster response for the LCMS, was joined by Rev. Darrell Howanitz, disaster response assistant, as they visited with those affected by the floods and met with local church leaders to hear plans for future recovery and rebuilding in Minot.
